8 month twin updates

The month of October has just ended and with it we mark the girls' eight month birthday. To be honest, we didn't really do much that was exciting over the past few weeks because of work and the babies being sick. It was a tough month in a lot of ways.

The girls have been going to daycare for a few hours each day as I go to school and teach class. Things have been going fairly well so far except for the fact that they have been sick with colds basically since they started. Recently things took a turn for the worst with Laura and she ended up with bronchitis and an ear infection. We took them both several times to the doctor and with medication, patience and a lack of sleep for us parents, things appear to be looking better.

Vera finally got her first two teeth this month but she doesn't ever want to show them, little stinker. She will smile with her mouth closed as if she knows you want to see them but won't let you. She is moving around very well on the floor mats we have in the living room and though she isn't quite crawling yet, I feel like it's coming.

Laura is sitting up almost on her own at this point but she doesn't like playing on the mat or being on her stomach very much. She is still as happy as ever and loves Cooper. She is always trying to touch him and watches him intently. He does not reciprocate the love.

Vera has been caught a few times pulling Laura's hair and I am hoping Laura learns to defend herself soon. Vera also bullies her sister in that she takes toys from her. I knew I would eventually have this kind of problem with them but I didn't expect it so soon.

We dressed the girls up as dragons for Halloween this year but we didn't really do anything special to celebrate on the actual day since we had gone to Portugal for the long weekend. We ended up coming home early to take the girls back to the urgent care doctor and didn't really feel like being festive. Jose and I were exhausted after not having slept due to Laura not sleeping and the last thing on my mind was going to a party.

Laura and Vera are now eating vegetables and they like them way more than they like fruit. It is actually a struggle to try to get them to eat fruit which seems odd to me considering it is naturally sweet. We are trying to get into a better eating schedule and a solid nap schedule but with my sort of random teaching hours it is difficult since they are at daycare for different hours each day.

I would say that this is the  month where I have felt the most tired and rundown since the girls were born. There are some days when I regret having gone back to work even part time. I have a lot of respect out there for working moms. It is hard. I am hoping that things begin to look up as we all adjust to our new schedule over the next month. Plus we will be gearing up for the girls' first holidays so that should be fun and is something to look forward to. The weather is finally cooling off too so it finally feels like fall. Hopefully the girls will begin to feel better and we will be able to get out and about more as well. I will keep everyone updated of course with all the cool and festive things that we do.

  1. I look forward to these updates every month. The girls are absolutly beautiful! And they always look so happy.

Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs. Then adding in working, it's nuts. Try to remember things will get better and you won't be stuck in this rut forever! Your a great mom!!
