Laura and Vera's Baptism

This weekend was Vera and Laura's baptism into the Catholic faith. We had the ceremony at the church which we joined in the town where we live on Saturday and then had our family and friends all go to a restaurant to have lunch afterwards. It was a wonderful day.

My mother-in-law made the girls' gowns and bonnets this summer and they turned out beautifully. I think the twins looked adorable and it's special to have these dresses now for any future children we might have. She did a gorgeous job! I am in awe of her talent and plan on asking her to teach me a few basic things soon.

The actual ceremony was performed by the deacon who lead our pre-baptism classes and I would say that was the only negative of the whole day. It was quite hot in the church and he just kept going on and on. It was the same as the three classes we had, repeating himself, scolding people, over explaining things. In any case when he finally got to the point the girls received their first sacrament. (I realize how terrible this all sounds but when it is 100 degrees it can be quite difficult to be standing, holding a baby in a dress and to have to listen to someone blather on).

Vera went first and cried and Laura was second and didn't. Anyone who knows these babies will not be surprised by that. Vera's godparents are Jose's sister Miriam and our good friend Salva who was also at Chapel Hill with us. Laura's godparents are Jose's best friend Alfonso and his wife Mercedes.

After we finished at the church we went with Jose's whole family and our friends to have lunch. We went to a restaurant which we had rented a part of and I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service. I think everyone enjoyed the food and had fun. The babies were passed around all afternoon and fell promptly asleep when we got home.

All in all it was a good day. Even with the heat. Thank goodness for A.C. The only thing missing was obviously my family. Boo to living so far away.
