Jose's 30th birthday celebration(S)
Dirty thirty
November has been a good month for us so far. We visited Gibraltar one weekend and then the following was Jose's 30th birthday!!!!! We actually had three different celebrations, one with his parents, one with his childhood friends and the last with the people he works with at school. I hope he enjoyed all of the attention and had fun. Hopefully he remembers it all which is going to be harder now that he is so old!
Today was actually the last part of Jose's 30th birthday bonanza. As part of his gifts we went to a soccer (or football) game this afternoon. It was a special charity event put together by Jose's favorite team, Betis (one of two teams here in Sevilla). A bunch of older, retired players came out to take part in a friendly game against legends from Madrid. Jose was like a little kid while we were watching them warm up. He knew who each was, their stats and why they were the superstars of their day. He also filled me in on all the players that he had collected stickers for (like baseball cards) when he was younger.
In the end the old Betis players didn't win but we had a good time cheering them on. I was surpised that even the ones who hadn't played for decades were still in pretty good shape. We had great seats so Jose could see them up close plus the weather was beautiful with the sun shining even if it has been cooling off here in the south of Spain. I even got a picture with the palm tree mascot! (I might have had to fight my way through some kids to do it but I don't feel bad). Overall, it was a good day!
